Over the past seven days, between June 8 and 14, 407 Eritreans have fled their country and crossed the
border into Shegerab refugee camp, in Eastern Sudan. About a third of the new arrivals are women and
children.
The table below shows age and gender distribution of the new arrivals
Age Both Genders Male Total Female Total
0 ‐ 5 43 18 25
5‐18 52 37 15
18 & above 312 236 76
Total 407 291 (71%) 116 (29%)
The regime’s perpetual torture, repression, imprisonment, and indefinite military conscription are forcing
Eritreans to flee across the borders to Eastern Sudan, as well as to Northern Ethiopia in hundreds every week.
Since January 2009 alone, 10,609 Eritrean refugees are reported to have arrived at Shegerab refugee camp,
in Eastern Sudan.
