Pastor Aregahegn jailed

Sources out of Asmara report the detention of Pastor Aregahegn, the director of The Nehemiah Project in Asmara. Pastor Aregahegn who is an American citizen married to a US national was detained by security officers from his house at the Sembel Housing Project.

Over the last few years the Nehemiah project was engaged in training and supporting Eritrean pastors across the country. Pastor Aregahegn was a long-term supporter of the EPLF and is known to have made significant contribution to the Eritrean independence struggle, during his time in the US.

Friends and supporters of the project are concerned about his safety. His wife and young children had recently moved to the US.
