The Patriarch, at best, is the spiritual father of the two million Tewahdo Eritreans. As followers and members of the Church, we have the moral and legal responsibility to ask why His Holiness was illegally removed. Who, if not us, the Eritrean Tewahdos, would care to ask about the illegal removal? He is our father and it is our Church and both have been victims of the shameful & illegal deed.

The Eritrean people and of course the two million Tewahdos deserve more, and they have the right to question when their spiritual Father, the Patriarch, is alienated illegally. It is not just the Patriarch’s case but of the whole believers.

The church belongs to the believers and not just the bishops. The Church has been governed for centuries by Church Laws and should remain likewise. Similarly, the church Law is not bendable for personal and temporary gains. It is universal and if amendment is needed, there must be an ecumenical consent. The Bishops are watchers and keepers of the Church Law. In a similar mode, the law-keepers should not be permitted to break the Law. As followers and members of the Church, we have the moral and legal responsibility to ask why His Holiness was illegally removed. Who, if not us, the Eritrean Tewahdos, would care to ask about the illegal removal? He is our father and it is our Church and both have been victims of the shameful & illegal deed.

The Eritrean people and of course the two million Tewahdos deserve more, and they have the right to question when their spiritual Father, the Patriarch, is alienated illegally. It is not just the Patriarch’s case but of the whole believers.

The church belongs to the believers and not just the bishops. The Church has been governed for centuries by Church Laws and should remain likewise. Similarly, the church Law is not bendable for personal and temporary gains. It is universal and if amendment is needed, there must be an ecumenical consent. The Bishops are watchers and keepers of the Church Law. In a similar mode, the law-keepers should not be permitted to break the Law. The law of the Church applies to all members from the ordinary lady in rural Eritrea all the way up to the head of the Church, the Patriarch. If and When the law is broken, then the stakeholders (the believers) have solemn responsibility to question the bishops, in spite of their authority.

If the voice of the Tewahdo believers continues to be ignored, then one can expect what might happen. Also, our enemy may use that opportunity to divide us more and add fuel to the fire.

We need to come together and demonstrate our dissatisfaction to the government of Eritrea and the embassy in the USA and around the world.
