أكدت مصادر عليمة لإذاعة المنتدى إعتقال السفير/ عبده محمد عبده بكري هيجي في وقت متأخر من ليلة الأربعاء 25 من يناير الجاري.
وترجح المصادر بأن إعتقال السفير/ هيجي جاء على خلفية آراء كان قد تبنّاها بعض الدبلوماسيين الإرتريين العاملين بالخارج، كالمطالبة بتحسين أوضاعهم المعيشية والوظيفية، حيث أثيرت هذه المطالب في الإجتماعات السنوية التي إنتظمت في مقر وزارة الشئون الخارجية الإرترية منذ مطلع يناير الجاري، وتضمنت المطالب السماح لأُسر الدبلوماسيين بالسفر والإقامة مع من يعولهم أثناء فترة عمله بالخارج، ورفع حالة (التجميد) التي يعاني منها الكثير من الدبلوماسيين نتيجة لهجرة أُسرهم أو إختيارها الإقامة خارج إرتريا.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن وزارة الشئون الخارجية تمنع الدبلوماسيين الإرتريين في الخارج من إصطحاب أُسرهم إلى خارج البلاد خشية إنشقاقهم عن النظام وطلبهم اللجوء السياسي في الغرب.
إلى ذلك، ذهب المراقبون إلى تفسير إعتقال المناضل السفير/ عبده هيجي بأنه يأتي في إطار محاصرة المطالب التي أصبحت تنهال على الوزارة، ويتوقعون أن تطال الإعتقالات المزيد من السفراء الذين تبنُّوا تلك المطالب.

The veteran Eritrean journalist during the armed struggle for independence, who also served as head of the Eritrean television before he was assigned to Denmark as Charge De Affairs has been arrested last Monday.
The reason for his arrest is not yet known.
Abdu Heji has been working at the Strategic Centre in Asmara, after his return following the closure of the Eritrean embassy in Pakistan.
